What a butterfly means in a dream: the main meaning
A butterfly is a process of transformation, a transition from an unremarkable, grey state of being to a beautiful, spiritual life with the feeling and sense of happiness.
This is one of the brightest symbols in a dream book. It says that a period of difficulties or unnoticed existence is coming to an end.
Colored, multicolored butterflies very often symbolize the so-called “movements in the soul” caused by the feeling of impending happiness. These are internal changes that a person feels before they manifest in events.
Catching a butterfly, butterflies landing on you: what they dream of
Catching a butterfly means the fulfillment of an immaterial desire connected with some kind of creative pursuits. It is not about money and not about everyday acquisitions. It is about fulfillment, recognition, inspiration.
If butterflies land on you in a dream, the dream means good news, happy events, joy. The more butterflies, the stronger and more joyful the events will be.
Many butterflies dream of leisure in complete abundance. This is a period when you can rest, enjoy yourself and deny yourself nothing.
If a butterfly is in the house – a sign of marital, family happiness. Such a dream speaks of harmony in the family and warm relations with loved ones.
A mosquito in a dream: next to a butterfly
A mosquito in dreams means an annoying, unprincipled person who, despite his insignificance, has the opportunity to cause problems.
If in a dream a mosquito turns out to be a butterfly, this is an important turn. What seemed like a small nuisance turns out to be something significant and beautiful.
Such a dream says that one should not rush to conclusions about people and events. First impressions can be deceiving.

A caterpillar in a dream: a stage before a butterfly
A caterpillar – the ability and readiness for transformations and changes for the better, to a new level, a new stage.
A caterpillar and a butterfly are connected. The caterpillar shows the stage you are at now. The butterfly – what this will turn into.
A green caterpillar signifies a stage of hidden, internal development. Also preparation for making a transition, a transformation to a new, higher level. It almost always relates to learning, skills, work, or creativity.
A white caterpillar points to the very same aspects of development, but its special aspect is strong nervous tension when achieving a goal.
If you dream of an ugly (with any flaws), parasitic caterpillar, this is the appearance in life of circumstances or a person that bring with them a parasitic way of acting. Such a way leads to the “affliction” in some manner of the ways of normal development, life, and state.
A large caterpillar means a greater degree of manifestation of all the characteristics described above.
A full interpretation of this symbol, with all its nuances and details, is available in our app. There, too, are hundreds of real dreams in which a butterfly and a caterpillar manifested in people’s lives.
A dream about a butterfly that came true
This is just one example out of thousands. The world’s largest database of dreams that came true is collected in our app. There you will find stories that will confirm or refute your guesses.
A participant’s story:
I am indoors, it looks like a room. I see that a mosquito is sitting on the table. I look closely. I approach quietly so as not to startle it. I raise my hand to kill it. I see that it is, as it turns out, a butterfly with very beautiful wings of a blue pearlescent color with iridescent hues. Its head is turned toward me, and it is looking at me.
The body of the butterfly is very large, especially the rear part of the body and the legs, while the wings are considerably smaller. But I admire the beauty of the wings and pay attention to nothing else. It takes off and moves toward me. I get a shock, I’m stunned. I back away, but the butterfly is already almost next to my face, so big. I turn away and run.
I remember calling the children for help. The older son says that’s it, he killed it. He’s pleased that he killed it, that he wasn’t afraid, unlike me. The younger one looks on in confusion. I come closer again. I look closely again. I see that the butterfly is lying on the table. Underneath it and around it – everything is covered in its innards. The shock turns into disgust with squeamishness. The butterfly takes off and comes at me again. And those little wings are practically invisible now.
In the interpretation of this dream, the butterfly showed the process of transformation in relationships. At first everything looked beautiful, like those very blue pearlescent wings. But reality revealed itself from another side, and the beauty turned out to be merely an outer shell.
The dream showed how a person goes through shock, disgust, and in the end accepts the situation. The children in the dream responded to the call for help and supported me, which was also reflected in real life.
The full interpretation of this symbol, with all the nuances and details, is available in our app. There you’ll also find hundreds of real dreams where the butterfly manifested itself in people’s lives.
How to work with the butterfly symbol: a practical view
If you dreamed of a butterfly, write the dream down right away while you remember the details. Note the butterfly’s color, its size, its behavior, and where it was located.
Think about what stage of transformation you are going through right now. A butterfly in a dream is an indication of change. It shows that the gray period is ending and something new is beginning.
Pay attention to the people around you. If you dreamed of a mosquito that turned out to be a butterfly, perhaps you are underestimating someone in your circle.
Do you want not just to read about dreams, but to induce them? In the app there are practices and affirmations that help you receive prophetic dreams and answers to important questions.

About the project
The project has been open to the public since 2012. We study dreams, the mechanisms of their realization, and the connections between consciousness, the unconscious, and the subconscious. We learn to receive information in dreams and interpret it correctly.
Our work is based on knowledge about the patterns of reactions to information that comes in dreams. This is the ability to recognize warnings and use the hints that appear as a mental response to pressing questions of everyday life. It concerns health, relationships, business, work, and significant events.
The project has collected testimonies from many participants about social events. We consider them as possible projections of the future, that is, upcoming events that will affect many people.
The statistics accumulated over long periods and the ability to track patterns in the synchronization of events and information from dreams on the eve have made it possible to identify and record cases of the subsequent realization of dreams about events on a global scale. This confirms that people are capable of perceiving information about the future.
On our project:
a dream book recognized by users as the best, based on the analysis of dreams that came true;
an effective system of practices for lucid and informational dreams (answers to questions);
a set of rules for interpreting dreams based on the analysis of dreams that came true;
the world’s largest database of prophetic dreams (those that came true);
the Dream Diary Diary Dreams app, created according to the algorithms of the project’s founders using all the project’s databases (the dream book, the database of dreams that came true, calendars for dream practice, and much more).
The app’s algorithm provides the most complete access when searching for the information you need and assistance in dream practice, as well as identifying individual abilities for developing your potential and the ability to receive information in dreams.
In the app, you can use interactive individual interpretations of your dreams, keep a dream diary and track their fulfillment, identifying personal symbols and patterns of real events and what you saw in a dream. You can download the Dream Diary app here.
Dreams and Superpowers
If you have ever had a prophetic dream, it means you have the ability to receive information in dreams. Most people block it and thereby reduce their ability to live and act more effectively. This mainly happens due to ignorance of the nature of dreams. Yet dreams are an ability that every person is given from birth. By right of birth. It is unlikely that nature created and gave anything “by chance.”

Hello, please help me understand a dream: I dreamed that I was leaving the doors of my childhood home together with my son and saw two large butterflies with multicolored wings. My son and I are admiring them, they turned toward me, I slightly extended my hand, and the butterfly immediately landed and began moving along my hand, I felt its very hard legs and got scared, wanted to shake it off my hand, but it clung on and I killed it on my hand and its long green body seemed to burrow into my hand between the thumb and index finger, wrapping around it, with disgust I went to the washbasin and for a long time, with difficulty, but I washed my hand. At the same time feeling guilty. That I killed the butterfly… I go out into the yard again thinking that I have a second chance. Another butterfly immediately lands on my hand, its legs are also stiff, but I endure it, although the very movement along my hand is not very pleasant. The butterfly seems to guide me toward others, I understand that they are a pair, and it strives to be together, I look under the bench, there are several more butterflies, all the same color, they all calmly climb onto me and move from the back to the rear)) I go to my son and show him, we find it funny that a group of large butterflies is calmly sitting there on me, but one begins to return to my hand, crawls up my arm toward my face and moves onto my head and at the same time two sensations – the butterfly on my head and I look at it with curiosity at eye level.
Hello. All dream discussions are only in Magickum Blogs – https://answers.magickum.com/
I dreamed of a huge, enormous butterfly before my beloved cheated on me. In the dream, the butterfly was of gigantic size, and it struck me deeply, just as the betrayal struck me in life.
Victoria, good evening. I realize I’ve spammed your website with questions.
Today in a dream I even saw your comments—thoughts, if I reproduce them freely as I remember them, the meaning seems to be “that it doesn’t irritate you, I express my thoughts figuratively and competently, but there’s too much personal information.”
But something really seems to be happening with me, that I need answers and new knowledge. I’ve read three Castaneda books so far at a normal pace, since I read thoughtfully and then also listen afterward, to ponder and live with this knowledge that is incomprehensible to reason. But intuitively it just somehow settles on me… I don’t know how else to explain it. Today I started a new volume, “Tales of Power,” and I’m almost not surprised anymore—it talks about butterflies as messengers—guides of this power, or how we perceive this visually. I hadn’t read it before; maybe more than 10 years ago when Castaneda came into fashion I started reading some book, but the descriptions of drug-induced states didn’t inspire me to continue reading. I had read that the color yellow can be seen as the color of the aura or as the shell of the mental body, but the butterflies surprised me. For me they weren’t an alarming symbol as in the book, on the contrary, pleasant communication—maybe my dream is about something else? Victoria, another question: is it possible to end up at a meeting before becoming acquainted with your website and affirmations?
Victoria, as a color in itself does not carry a semantic load, but of course, being interested in esotericism and especially after his passing, I have a rough idea of the interpretation of different symbols separately, but all of this requires talent and special experience—and in your case, the psychological framework in all the descriptions is also very precise. Well, I’ll try to adapt it in relation to our realities, and you, with your characteristic intuition, please share your thoughts. The man was not an ordinary person, with a high, strong energy, but he did not develop it; it was given by nature as a given: he had a high intellectual level and above-average intuition. Whatever he always said would happen, it happened, and he always knew he would leave early too, of course not the exact day and hour, but he said he would not pass a certain age threshold. About the future, he said it can be known but not changed; certain things are already decided. Morally strong, strong-willed, stubborn, like a sunny person, but there were many trials in life, and all his friends are perplexed as to why he had so many, they consider him a pure, spiritual person, although he is not a saint, very earthly, the element of earth. Constantly in his presence electronics would freeze, lights would burn out abnormally often. Of course, I am now engaged in comprehending the universe; even when I was still in complete shock, I directly demanded this knowledge and asked him, and asked the higher powers. I studied literature starting from Nietzsche, Castaneda, Osho, and other esoteric literature, the lives of saints, Buddhist practices, theoretical study of quantum physics. In general, with a slight shift as it might seem from the outside, but for me it is the only possible existence. In dreams there are certain signs; for example—I dreamed that someone invisible clamped my mouth shut, put glasses on me, and seated me at a desk; I was supposed to read—I probably chose the right path. Quite recently I had a dream—a long deserted road, suitcases stand along the roadside, I chose a purple one, so beautiful—probably the baggage of knowledge. Archetypes of animals also very definitely point to the energy of cognition. Here is one of the especially impressive ones. A huge bull-rhinoceros the size of a five-story building moves in my direction; I see everything very realistically, feel its power, see the rough folds of its skin, see its eyes up close, feel its mood. There are other people around, they are frightened, I am not; I stand by the road watching its powerful run, and it is rushing straight at us; I do not move from the spot, I want to follow it, to see its movements from all sides. Someone nearby runs in fear, and I feel how the rhinoceros reacts to the movement and is already running at us. I remain in place, deciding to act according to circumstances. Because of a sharp turn in our direction, it crashes into the corner of a building; I somehow react in such a way that I understand it will not hit me if I do not panic, and plus I feel the animal’s intentions, at times as if identifying it with myself or participating in three projections, seeing everything from the side, feeling myself both in the spirit of this animal and at the same time the main role of observer—that is myself. Huge pieces of plaster and parts of the house crumble, they do not hit me, but I saw the moment of collision and I run into the archway of the house into the courtyard. The rhinoceros does not fit through the archway due to its dimensions and begins to shrink; I try to close the gate, meanwhile it has shrunk to the size of a large boar, but already quite normal, and it pursues me. In the end I ran into the entrance hall, went up the stairs, and it fell behind. These are roughly my thoughts.
Good evening. I dreamed it or almost saw it, because the sensations were completely physically tangible and conscious. In the room under the ceiling, at first something like moths were circling; I looked closely as if they had been swept in by a whirlwind. Then a group of large colorful butterflies flew up to me, the size of a large kitten; I admired them somewhat warily and with delight, examined them, and it seemed to me that they were not quite insects, not ordinary butterflies, but as if with human little bodies and multilayer wings, constantly in motion, the wings as if in an unusual filming mode. The butterflies cautiously, so as not to frighten me, as it seemed to me, seemed to want to communicate more closely; I timidly stretched out my hands, then withdrew them, not from fear but from shyness, perhaps. Then the group flew away and one butterfly of yellow coloring approached, wonderful; I seemed to feel that this one was mine, I stretched out my hands and it landed on my palm. Large, but light, and the interaction was pleasant, I even felt joy, mutually; it somehow communicated with me, simply shared joy and goodness. Yellow has often been dreamed by me lately. When my husband passed into another world, I dreamed of a huge ring on my finger with a yellow diamond; I examined the stone for a long time in surprise, and there was also a pleasant feeling from it. I tried on a yellow skirt and asked my husband to buy it, very beautiful and expensive; I even remembered the price, 75 thousand, but the purchase was postponed, and in the dream my husband then gave me money; there really were financial difficulties. I dreamed of a bouquet of yellow roses with long stems and a pleasant fragrance. In general, yellow in my dreams is often associated with pleasant impressions.
Dear Victoria, is there some special meaning of the yellow color? Please look, interpret, if possible, with your subtle and precise vision.
But in your past life together, didn’t the color yellow mean nothing to you? Remember what was special between you and what is connected with yellow. It’s he who is sending you messages like this, using a shared symbol tied to a memory.
