A head in a dream is a symbol of consciousness, mind, mental state. The ability to perceive information and analyze it. And also a symbol of leadership – the head of something.
If you want to check your symbols, go to the dream interpretation app. There are collected thousands of real examples from our project, a complete database of fulfilled dreams and more than 7000 symbols with interpretations that are not in the public domain.
What the size of a head means in a dream
Big head – means the spheres in which a person can succeed. Greatness, talent, abilities, fame, wealth.
Small head – to mistakes, foolishness, the inability to make the right decisions.
Disfigured, mutilated, sick head – an altered consciousness and perception of the world.
Having two, three or more heads – the ability to make extraordinary decisions. Idiom: two heads are better than one.
Shaved head – restrictions, lack of opportunities for realizing intentions.
Severed head (not yours) – loss of position, status, leadership.
Severed head – a symbol of an unexpected event, a stressful situation. More often – an event as a result of which one loses status.
Mutilated head – to misfortune.
Behead an enemy – satisfaction of ambitions, involvement in power.
Seeing your own severed head – you will lose your head in some situation.
Your head separated from your body – freedom, recovery, liberation.
What actions with a head mean
Washing your head – putting your thoughts in order. The end of a period of worries.
Dirty head – illness, mental disorder.
Hitting on the head – the desire to make someone think, dissatisfaction with other people’s actions.
Blows to the head – receiving bad news.
Broken or pierced head – stress, emotional turmoil. If with blood – it may indicate an accident.
Scratching your head – finding yourself in a difficult situation.
A bird pooped on your head – unpleasant news.
Insects on your head – failures and worries.
Why dreams with injuries should not frighten you
The most important thing to understand: dreams with injuries, blood, accidents almost never mean physical danger. They speak of emotional, psychological or social processes.
A head in a dream is your thinking. If it is being smashed, it means your system of thinking is failing. You are overloaded, confused, unable to make a decision.
Bones, teeth, hands — all of these are symbols of different aspects of your life. And each of them can be deciphered.
Blood in a dream: what else it can mean
Blood in dreams is one of the most frequent and complex symbols. Its interpretation depends on many factors.
If blood comes from the head, this speaks of problems in the intellectual or emotional sphere. A person may feel that their brain is being fried, that they are burning out, that they cannot cope with the information load.
If blood flows from a wound on the body — this may mean the loss of something important in life: relationships, money, status. If there is blood on the hands — it may be a matter of a sense of guilt.
When dreams become warnings
Many people wonder: why do some dreams come true and others not? And how do you understand which one is truly important?
There are several signs here.
First, vividness. Warning dreams are usually very vivid, detailed and memorable. You wake up with the feeling that it was real.
Second, emotions. Warning dreams evoke strong feelings: fear, anxiety, horror, sometimes — relief or joy. If you woke up with a strong emotion — that is a signal.
Third, repetition. If the same dream occurs several times, it is definitely worth deciphering. The subconscious is persistently trying to get through to you.
A dream that came true: cutting off a snake’s head
A participant in the project had a dream about snakes. In one dream there were two snakes — a pair. She tore off the head of one of them. Both turned into skins.
In the second dream she was chasing a woman her husband had left her for. In the dream they were supposed to have a wedding, but it didn’t go well. The participant chased her through a forest, through villages, and cornered her in a school.
The woman hid in a metal capsule. People came to the school, many people, a crowd. Everyone hated this woman and wanted to kill her. But they couldn’t destroy the capsule.
The participant picked up the capsule and threw it against the wall. A snake crawled out of the capsule, semi-transparent, on its last breath. She knew for certain that it was that woman. With two fingers she tore off the snake’s head.
The snake evaporated.
In another dream she met this woman on the street and bit off her head with her teeth. There was no blood, she simply bit through the neck.
Answer: tearing off the snake’s head is a good symbol. The pair of snakes in the first dream are the ex-husband and that woman. They won’t be together for long.
The participant confirmed: this woman not only meddled in her family, threatened her before the divorce, and sent photos from their apartment. The participant is certain that it was not without her involvement that the husband gave up the child.
A dream that came true: a broken head on roller skates
The story our participant shared happened two years ago. Her daughter got into an institute in Minsk in the directing department. There was no end to the joy. It seemed that everything was coming together perfectly: the dream had come true, a brilliant future lay ahead.
But two months before the start of her studies, the participant had a strange and disturbing dream.
In this dream, her daughter is roller skating down a winding road. The road goes downhill, and the girl picks up more and more speed. With every second she realizes she is losing control. The skates carry her down, she cannot brake, she cannot turn. Eventually she crashes into the curb, falls, and smashes her head on the stones.
Blood gushes heavily from her head. It is a Gruesome sight. The dreamer woke up in a cold sweat.
She immediately understood that this was not just a random dream. Too vivid, too realistic, too frightening.
Interpretation of the symbols. First, the head in a dream is a symbol of control, of thinking, of the ability to manage one’s life. If in a dream someone smashes their head, it often indicates that the person is losing control over an important process.
Second, the road downhill. A descent in a dream almost always means losing one’s footing, moving toward something inevitable. The steeper the descent, the faster events develop.
Third, roller skates. This is an unstable means of transport. A person on roller skates easily loses balance. In a dream this shows that the situation is precarious, and the person has no solid ground under their feet.
And most importantly, the blood. Blood from the head in a dream means a leakage of life energy, strength, resource. The head itself remained intact, which indicates that there will be no physical destruction. There will only be emotional exhaustion.
How the dream came true. The dreamer did not really believe in this interpretation. It seemed to her that if her daughter had gotten in, then she had the strength and knowledge. That the dream simply reflected her own worry.
But events began to unfold exactly as the dream had shown.
The daughter got into college. But studying turned into torment from the very first days. The workload turned out to be colossal. The demands — inflated. The program — too difficult for her.
The girl tried to keep up. But she lacked neither knowledge nor strength. She fell further and further behind the group, grew more and more nervous, slept worse and worse. At some point, she had a nervous breakdown.
She was ill for a long time. Then she tried to return to her studies. But during her illness she fell even further behind. There was no longer any chance of catching up with the group. In the end, she withdrew her documents and returned home, to the village.
Everything the dream showed came true exactly. The head remained intact — no physical injury occurred. But the blood — the leakage of strength — did happen. Stress drank all the girl’s resources dry.
What to do if you dreamed of a broken head
Such dreams should not frighten you. They should alert you and make you think. If you had such a dream, here is what you can do.
First, analyze your current situation. Are you overloaded? Have you taken on too many obligations? Do you feel that you are losing control over an important project, your studies, a relationship?
Second, pay attention to your physical and emotional state. If you are constantly tired, sleep poorly, get irritated over trifles — these are the first signs that your resources are running out.
Third, do not ignore the warnings. If the dream tells you that you are heading downhill, then it is time to stop and reconsider your plans. Perhaps you need to slow down, take a pause, ask for help.
If you have a scary dream, don’t panic. It’s better to write it down, break it down into details and try to understand which area of life it points to.
What to do if you dreamed about a head
If you dreamed about a head, pay attention to its condition. Big – to success. Small – to mistakes. Severed – to loss of status. Mutilated – to misfortune.
If you tear off an enemy’s head – you will win. If your head is being torn off – you will lose control. If you wash your head – you are putting your thoughts in order.

About the project
Our project is a research study about dreams that has been ongoing for many years. Over this time, the world’s largest database of dreams that came true has been collected. Thousands of participants share their stories, and based on these stories we compile interpretations of symbols.
Unlike ordinary dream dictionaries, which take meanings from encyclopedias, our dream dictionary is created based on the analysis of real dreams that came true. Each symbol has been tested in practice. If different people had the same symbol coincide with the same events, it is included in the database.
The app is a dreamers’ club with private access. Everything is collected there: the complete dream dictionary database (more than 7,000 symbols), the world’s largest database of dreams that came true, practices for inducing informative dreams, diaries, decoding algorithms.
We don’t fortune-tell and we don’t predict. We work with data. Symbols, patterns, correlations. Dreams show what is already happening or will happen. And it can be verified. As we do on the project.

Good afternoon! Please help me understand a dream.
I dreamed that I see from the side a body of water under ice. There are ice holes in it. A helicopter arrives and, descending near the ice holes, seems to be searching for someone. I begin to feel uneasy, because the feeling appears that someone has drowned (gone missing), and is being searched for.
Then, near the last ice hole, located next to me, the helicopter stops and my younger brother appears (who recently died), who comes up to me and hands me a fish head in his hands.
(The fish without a body, only the head; the fish head looks like a carp; quite large, fits in the palm of an adult man..). I begin to feel good and warm in my soul that I saw my brother.
No one said anything in words in the dream (neither I nor my brother)..
What could this fish head mean?
mafbes, hello, I think a dream about a situation in a dream is a consequence of some event in life in the emotional sphere, depending on which body of water it is, a lake or a river? A frozen lake — indifference, absence of feelings and emotions, insensitivity, including as a result of events that “killed” feelings. Ice on a river — a halt in development — this may concern any areas of activity in your life, for example in the business sphere — stagnation in affairs, frozen projects. A drowned person means troubles and a hopeless situation. A helicopter in a dream symbolically reflects personal relationships. For example, seeing a flying helicopter — means changes in relations with a specific person, so you see that the situation will be resolved, and here your brother with fish is also a symbol of such help, seeing a fish head — removing from the path what is main in the project, in the business. This may also be a symbolic indication, depending on what your dream concerns in reality. Your emotions from what you saw are good, which means help from your brother is also positive, compare the interpretation with real events in life, I think everything has become clear to you. Dreams are more conveniently posted in Blogs, there we discuss and learn to interpret dreams.

Many thanks for the explanations!
I also wanted to clarify.
1) Does it play any role that the brother appeared in a dream now, when 40 days have not yet passed since his death?
2) Did I understand correctly that the fish’s head is a good sign and, as it were, help? In the near future I plan to resolve the matter of my professional activity (take a qualification exam; and there are doubts about this – whether this is my calling and direction). Could the dream be connected with this?
3) Also on the personal side – relations with my spouse are not entirely stable. There was infidelity on his part. Now he is showing initiative to preserve and develop the relationship. And I have doubts about whether this is necessary?
That is, is the dream still closer to professional activity (stagnation – development) or could it relate to my personal life?
Thank you in advance!!!
mafbes, up to 40 days their connection with us is stronger, he worries about you, so you see help from him.
Carefully read the interpretation of the symbol – a fish’s head, and use this interpretation to draw analogies with real events; perhaps your management has a bad relationship, and your brother is showing that they are resolved, they will not interfere with you.
To determine your relationship with your spouse, you can do the affirmation “Sincerity of Relationships,” follow the link to the Blogs, open a new topic and ask questions; it is not convenient to conduct dialogues in the dream interpreter.
Thank you!
Thank you for the answer! Grandfather treated me normally, although essentially he somehow didn’t care. But more likely positively than negatively. Working with your subconscious here, after all, requires a lot of experience and understanding. It’s hardly possible. And what does religion have to do with it? What if I’m not a Christian? But Affirmation, that’s already interesting, thank you.
Ilya, the question of religion is complex and not discussed within the framework of the site; she wrote advice, it can be skipped. We always work with the subconscious in dreams; your dream is precisely signals from it. Read on the site, there are explanations of what affirmations are.
Ilya, hello. An interesting dream (in terms of interpretation). I understand that it is very unpleasant. We will have to look for “threads” and clues. Because here we need an “archive” of your personal memory of events, not a dream dictionary. Let’s start with this: do you currently have a subconscious (conscious) fear that is connected with a feeling of “retribution” for what you have done? I do not mean the fact that you may or may not be guilty (that is not the main thing here), but the fact that you are terrified of certain circumstances coming to pass in your life (and your loved ones may not know about it). Think about it – this is at least a key to further interpretation.
Hello, you know, there is nothing that I am currently terrified of. Not terrified, no, there is for example an ordinary fear of thesis defense in three months. Basically, that’s the only thing awaiting me in the near future; beyond that I have no plans and consequently no fears, and that’s for sure.
Considering that this head lies on your family’s table, the only remaining option is that the dream means troubles “in your family” – this concerns everyone who was at the table, will be in the near future, and it will greatly worry you (and still frighten you, that is, you will experience fear because of events that will happen and cause a further chain reaction). If there was horror in the eyes (of the dead man – of the dead head), then the event will likewise be “horrible”. (the connection to the characteristic of your grandfather – his character during life – is a direct indication of the same kind of negative events. For example – a good person who has died is dreamed of as help, an indication that problems will be avoided). In short, his entire facial expression is a symbolic reflection of the reaction to the situation. Gold teeth – are likewise synchronous negative events. But I hope that you will somehow still be able to avoid all these misfortunes. It is very unpleasant to interpret such a thing, but what is the point if one “sugarcoats” interpretations? If you have practices for changing the projection of the future, at least try.
Victoria, could I get some clarification on the interpretation of this dream? I clearly felt fear specifically in front of that sight, and the scene in the dream is deliberately terrible; after all, the grandfather being selfish is a character trait, but he didn’t treat his grandson badly—maybe this is a warning, and the eyes were looking specifically at Ilya. You think this is Ilya’s fear of a secret being revealed, but to me it seems like a warning because of an event, so that he would get scared and think it over. Can there be different interpretations, or do you have clarity in understanding the dream here?
I should probably clarify, but my grandfather’s eyes did not express horror, they were calm, I would even say peaceful, and simply wide open, that’s what I felt. And here’s another thing, I think I only just now remembered that the horror came to me when I had already woken up. In the dream there was neither horror nor even fear, there was a slight disgust. Only after I woke up did I realize how eerie the dream was, but in the dream I felt only a slight discomfort. My first message was written on emotion after the dream, and it apparently clouded my mind, but I only just now remembered that I did not feel fear while in the dream. I think this is very important information that could turn everything upside down.
Maybe.
That’s right…
Then remember some more yourself and figure it out. His emotions on his face and in his gaze are a reaction to the event.
Ilya, indeed all the events of a dream have meaning, it’s good that you are able to remember the “imprint” of the dream, the emotions, and then analyze the information. Victoria, what do you think, could disgust indicate a certain “underlying layer”? Ilya, try the Flamingo affirmation, I will explain to you in general terms what we are offering you – all events first occur on the subtle plane, sometimes in dreams we see clues from our subconscious in encrypted form, so, you may know what lucid dreams are, your super-ego, on the other side, is capable of generating events, projecting their embodiment into earthly life. With the help of lucid dreams, one can try to find out what exactly might happen and what a grandfather possibly warned about. And having more precise information, try to create a different version of events there.
Disgust is a sign of something spoiled and arousing aversion, repulsive. But you understand yourself, here too there are “shades” of emotion depending on the situation.
He was showing it to all his relatives in his sleep there, but they did not see what he sees (or did not react). This means that the event in the projection of the future is already stable and predetermined. That is why I was clarifying whether he is already afraid of something (suspects, feels). If the grandfather were warning (for example, there is a choice and what follows depends on him), he would have pointed to something, but his “terrible head” was already there. I looked at Ilya – it is like the gaze of a mummy (the gaze of a dead man). No, here there is not a single even slightest positive symbol to latch onto. One wants to find one, but there is none. He needs to think that this may be and to be attentive. He will find out earlier than others. Or he will understand. The event is negative, but the finale is not visible. Maybe there is a “ray of hope” there.
Good afternoon! Help me understand, I had a vile, terrible dream: A large dining table, empty space around the table, at the table sit all my relatives, enthusiastically eating dinner, passing dishes to each other, talking, laughing. And in the center of the table on a tray stands the carelessly severed head of my long (10 years) deceased grandfather, of a very unpleasant appearance – eyes very wide open, mouth also very wide, full of gold teeth (all his teeth during life were gold), and it is looking at me! (the head is not alive, the eyes, tongue do not move, they are simply open) I feel that it is unpleasant for me to look at it, I try to convey to all the dining relatives that maybe it would be better to remove the head, no one reacts, everyone continues eating dinner while enthusiastically conversing with each other. I do not know if it will be relevant, but the deceased grandfather was a very selfish person, my mother treats him with skepticism, does not love but also does not hate, just nothing at all. So do I. And what is this madness?
Ilya, hello. For correct interpretation, the details of the dream are very important; tell me, how did your grandfather treat you? By the symbols, this is an obstacle in affairs, loss of position, possibly an unpleasant incident with you. All relatives do not pay attention, which means they will not be able to help; your emotions add negativity to the bad projection; the grandfather’s egoism also intensifies the bad circumstances. Possibly, there is also a bad influence from outside—this is at the level of subconscious guesses—by intuition, it seems possible to me. What to advise you in such a situation: try to change the bad projection of the future, make an affirmation—Uznt’ budushcheye and Rozovyye Flamingo. Affirmations are an opportunity to connect your own subconscious to solving your issues. Also, it is worth remembering him, ordering a service, and placing a candle for the repose of his soul.
Thank you very much for the answer! Yes… you can’t call that woman good. She didn’t just meddle in my family, it’s not the first case, so to speak. And before the divorce she threatened me so that I wouldn’t register the child to my husband (I was pregnant), she didn’t hesitate to send photos of herself in our apartment. And I’m sure that it wasn’t without her involvement that he disowned the child. So I don’t feel sorry for her one bit, she caused me (and not only me) a lot of harm.
But I live in another city, I don’t know anything about them… although that’s probably for the best)
Hello, Victoria)
So, tearing off a snake’s head is a good symbol. There were two dreams with snakes. In one, there were two snakes, like a pair, small, I tore the head off one of them, and both turned into “skins.”
In the second dream, I was chasing that woman my husband left me for. In the dream, they were supposed to have a wedding, but it somehow didn’t go well, and I decided right in the dream to deal with her. She was running away from me, I knew that, but I didn’t see her herself. I just chased her through the forest, through some villages, until I cornered her in a school in one of the settlements. But she hid in a metal capsule about 20 centimeters long and 10 in diameter. Well, a person couldn’t possibly fit in there, but she got in. And people came to the school, many, a crowd. And all these people hated her very much and wanted to kill her. But they couldn’t destroy this capsule. They threw it and burned it—nothing worked. I take the capsule in my hands, say, “Come out, you freak,” and throw it against the wall. A snake crawls out of the capsule, at most 20 centimeters long and sort of semi-transparent, like a ghost on its last breath. But I know for sure that it’s her, the “freak.” To myself I think, “You’ve cast your last spell” (where that came from, I can’t understand at all). I grab it by the throat… if that’s what you can call that spot on snakes… with two fingers in a ring—and tear off its little head. The snake evaporates).
And there was another dream where I met her on the street. I decided it was a perfect time to deal with her—and bit off her head with my teeth. There was no blood, I just bit through her neck, and the head dangled on the skin.
Victoria, tell me, these are good dreams, right? Can I hope that she’ll get what she deserves?
That depends on who you ask. For this woman, your dream clearly foretells not very good changes. I think things won’t work out for her not only with your husband, but in life in general. It’s just that some areas of life will be affected immediately, while others—gradually, over time. The pair of snakes in the first dream—that’s the couple: your ex and this woman. I think they won’t be together for long. Although, I must admit, that snake of a woman is something else…
Hello, I couldn’t find an interpretation about a dog, so I’ll write here. I dreamed that mongrels were attacking me, as usual fiercely, madly barking and trying to bite. At first one attacked from the front (a small light-colored one, maybe pale red), I drove it off, hit it with a stick, and in the end didn’t let it get close, then one or two more dogs joined from the right side, the same size, color not black I think, and they also barked and lunged. In the end I hit them alternately with some stick, then took another stick and also hit them without letting them come close and bite. They never bit me, but in the dream there was a feeling not so much of fear as a kind of fighting composure and wariness that allowed me not to lose my head but to act. The dream was interrupted quickly, but I definitely drove the dogs off, so I’m wondering what exactly this means?
Only the fact that some friend (a red dog) and acquaintances (these could simply be people you know from the outside, not even friends) will come out against you in an aggressive manner (to attack – that is the allegory), mongrels are a sign of very simple people, unsuccessful, unsettled. They barked, meaning abuse, insults, and attempts to accuse you of something. They lunged – an attack. You will respond to them adequately.
Thank you for the interpretation, tell me, is there any way to find out when this will happen or should happen if the dream occurred from Saturday to Sunday?
And I had this dream: I was with my daughter on an island (I don’t know how I got there, I didn’t see water nearby, but in the dream I know I’m on an island). From a distance I see my husband with two dogs, one big, beautiful and noble, and the other smaller, black and on a leash, which the husband is holding. When I come closer, the big dog is gone, and the other one lunges at me and bites my hand (I don’t see this, I only feel the jaws on my hand), but there is no pain or blood. My husband pulls the dog toward himself and pries its jaws open, and it’s as if that’s how it should be and nothing special… he ties up the dog and I see amethyst beads or a necklace on it… then on my own hand I also see several beads (made of stone, wooden, and some other kinds) and I wash them under the tap, someone nearby asks something, I answer that of these I only wear one, and I point to the tiger’s eye beads (although in life I wear beads very, very rarely), then there’s a fragment where on the same island I meet a boy from the neighboring building entrance (before, he and I never talked at all) and we talk like old acquaintances, I tell him that I saw his younger brother, that he gave me a ride once (this is actually true) and I asked what his name was, since I had forgotten, he answered that it was Sergey (I’m not sure that this is actually true, I haven’t seen these guys in a long time and have forgotten the names) and immediately rushed to call him so that he would always give me a ride, I stopped him, said thank you… I don’t need it every day… and I left.
That’s when I woke up.
The husband’s dogs are friends, female friends. The noble one – the one that disappeared – is a real person who actually (directly or indirectly) will disappear or has already disappeared from his and your life. But the second black one, on the husband’s leash, is some woman; she is likewise black in life, that is, she has black hair, and she is “rolling barrels” at you, so to speak, and moreover she seriously harms you with this, though it does not touch you (you think so yourself). The husband himself restrains her when she begins to harm you with her attacks. The brothers on the island are prototypes of real men, possibly young, and they either are friends with each other or know each other, and they treat you very well, and moreover, it happens that they somehow help (figuratively, the role of a taxi driver (just a car in your case) is temporary help); I think you will be able to guess who they are in life. The beads in your dream indicate that your relationship with your husband weighs on you (more likely you are simply putting up with it). In any case – for now.
Do you think this “dog” could be my mother-in-law, i.e., my husband’s mother? It fits the description very well.
Of course, it certainly can be. He’s too lenient with that dog in the dream, despite what it does. That is, he allows it up to a certain limit. Is that how he behaves with his mom when she goes too far?
His behavior is very similar, but she never said anything to my face. And I didn’t dream of a dog biting me either.
When they bite in a dream, it means in reality they act. When they bark, it means in reality they talk (yap).
