A weapon in a dream is a symbol of the need to protect one’s family or business. A person with a weapon shows that he is ready to fight back. This is not necessarily aggression; most often it is the defense of one’s boundaries. If strangers behaved aggressively toward you, this may indicate that problems may soon arise that will lead to quarrels and disputes.

Regardless of who appears in your dream, as a character he carries information about some person. If you know the people in your dream, it may have a direct relation to you and to them. But if the people are strangers, then the context of what you experienced in the dream is still unknown to you. And these are circumstances of the future. The book “Prophetic Dreams and Lucid Dreaming” will help you understand the logic of dreams more deeply.
A weapon appears in a dream when a person is forced to defend his position. The more serious the weapon, the more serious the conflict or the stronger the means of defense.
What different plots with weapons mean
Seeing a person with any weapon — a rifle, a pistol, a knife, a dagger or an axe — symbolizes the need to protect one’s family or business.
If the weapon is pointed at you — expect problems, quarrels and disputes. Someone is ready to attack your interests.
If you are the one holding a weapon, you are ready to defend yourself. What matters is which weapon. A pistol means personal protection. An assault rifle means a serious conflict, social or work-related. A knife means a hidden threat, betrayal.
Dreams in which third parties act against you are not uncommon. But such dreams rarely foretell events that will have no effect on the dreamer.
A dream that came true: soldiers with weapons and war
A participant in the project shared dreams that came true in a terrible way. A year or even a year and a half before the outbreak of hostilities, she dreamed of military aircraft bombing. And a month before it began, she had a dream: two soldiers with weapons came for her husband and took him somewhere. When it all started, she remembered her dreams and understood what they had been about.
In this dream, the weapons in the soldiers’ hands are a symbol of violence, coercion, an external force that intervenes in life. They did not protect—they threatened.
A dream that came true: a rifle in a field and targets
A participant had a dream about relocation. There was a lot of military equipment in it—trucks, tanks, but all with their cannons covered. The equipment was crossing a railroad crossing and dispersing: trucks to the left, tanks to the right. She watched from the sidelines, and then turned around and walked to the right with a man across a wild field with withered grass.
The man had a rifle in his hand. He began shooting at a door standing far away in the field. He shot through it—almost nothing was left of it. He was looking for somewhere else to shoot, but the cartridges ran out.
In this dream, the rifle is a symbol of an attempt to break through a barrier. The man was shooting at the door—he wanted to open a path for himself. The participant went with him—she was ready to follow him. But the cartridges ran out—meaning the resource is limited. She did not have time to understand what came next.
A Dream Come True: An Automatic Weapon and Target Shooting
A participant shared a dream. She was in a gym with her great-uncle. Targets hung on the wall, several shooters. Her grandfather had a real automatic weapon in his hands. She was explaining to him how to use it. The targets were high up, everyone was shooting standing, but her grandfather lay down. She said: it’s inconvenient to shoot from below upward. He fired. She saw holes on the target: 7, then 9, then 10. Above the ten — three little holes in a row, three nines.
Then the targets were taken down, she said to her grandfather: look how well you hit. And he replied: I wasn’t shooting at that target, and pointed to the one next to it on the left. She woke up.
In this dream, the automatic weapon is a symbol of protection, but the grandfather was shooting at the wrong place. He aimed at one target but hit another. This means that in reality, protection may be directed somewhere other than where it’s needed.
What to Do If You Dream About Weapons
If you dream about weapons, pay attention to who is holding them. You — you are ready to defend yourself. Another person — they represent a threat or protection.
What weapon you see. A pistol — personal conflicts. A knife — betrayal. An automatic weapon — serious social or work conflicts. Military equipment — large-scale changes.
