Discoveries that came in dreams: Mendeleev, Einstein, and other celebrities

Many people first saw in their dreams what later made them famous. Discoveries that changed the world often came not in laboratories and not at a desk, but in a dream. When consciousness turns off, the subconscious continues to work. And it is there, in the depths, that the answers to the most complex questions lie.

If you want to check your symbols, go to the dream interpretation app. It contains thousands of real examples from our project, a complete database of dreams that came true, and more than 7000 symbols with interpretations that are not publicly available.

Dmitri Mendeleev and the periodic table

Dmitri Mendeleev devoted twenty years of his life to creating the periodic system of chemical elements. He collected and studied all the elements known to science, but he simply could not arrange them all into a single system.

The scientist worked for three days straight without resting. And when he decided to take a short break, he saw the missing elements in a dream, and it came to him in a flash. That is how the classification that changed the course of science came to be.

Albert Einstein and the theory of relativity

Albert Einstein said that his entire scientific career was a rethinking of a dream in which he saw himself riding a sleigh down a steep snowy slope. As he picked up speed, all the surrounding colors merged into a single blur.

This dream inspired his entire career. One of his most famous statements: “The gift of seeing dreams meant more to me than my talent for absorbing conscious knowledge.”

Einstein made brilliant discoveries and was ahead of many scientists of his time not only thanks to the knowledge he possessed. But also to the fact that he trusted his inner voice and used the powerful force of his imagination.

Paul McCartney and the song Yesterday

One of the most famous songs of the last century, “Yesterday,” came to Paul McCartney in one of his dreams.

In “The Beatles Anthology,” McCartney recalls: “I woke up one morning with a melody in my head and thought, ‘Hey, I don’t know this melody — or do I?’ It was like a jazz melody. I went to the piano, worked out the chords, made sure I remembered it, and then went around to all my friends asking what it was. ‘Do you know this one? It’s a good melody, but I couldn’t have written it, because I saw it in a dream'”.

Friedrich August Kekulé and the benzene formula

In 1865, the German chemist Friedrich August Kekulé managed to propose the correct cyclic formula for the compound benzene. There is a well-known story that Kekulé pictured benzene in his imagination as a snake made of six carbon atoms.

The idea of the compound’s cyclic nature came to him in a dream, when the imagined snake bit its own tail.

Elias Howe and the sewing machine

The nineteenth-century American Elias Howe is considered the “father” of the modern sewing machine. He nearly went mad, straining his mind to figure out where the eye of the needle should be located for the mechanism to work. The solution came to the inventor in a dream.

He kept thinking about the classic needle, and the eye at the bottom of the needle simply never occurred to him. Until he dreamed that he was creating a sewing machine for the king of savages in a strange land.

In a dream, the king of the savages gave Howe 24 hours to solve the problem. The inventor was saved from the nightmare by the aborigines’ spears, which for some reason had holes in their tips, right at the point..

At 4 a.m., Howe woke up and turned the dream into reality. He immediately understood everything. The eye of the needle should be at the tip of the point, not on the wide part. As a result, he was the first in the United States to receive a patent for a sewing machine with a shuttle mechanism.

Niels Bohr and the model of the atom

The Danish physicist Niels Bohr was able to describe the modern model of the atom thanks to a dream about the solar system.

Bohr dreamed of a sun made of burning gas, around which planets connected to it by thin threads revolved. Suddenly the gas solidified, and the sun and the planets shrank in size.

The scientist interpreted the dream as follows: the sun is the nucleus of the atom, and the planets around it are the electrons.

Oleg Antonov and the Anтей aircraft

Oleg Antonov, the Soviet designer of giant aircraft, for a long time could not come up with a suitable tail assembly for the tail of his An-22 “Antaeus.” He tried drawing it this way and that, but the worthwhile idea came to him precisely in a dream. Such an unusual shape struck him so much that he immediately woke up and sketched what he had seen. It was in this way that the record-breaking aircraft was designed.

Frederick Banting and insulin

The lifesaving insulin, which helps preserve the lives of many people with diabetes every day, was also invented in a dream by the Canadian physiologist Frederick Banting.

At that time, the effect of insulin on diabetics had already been studied, but no one had yet managed to synthesize the drug itself. Banting read an article about the connection between insulin and the pancreas and thought about this discovery for a very long time. And then, in a dream, the idea came to him to conduct an experiment on dogs: tie off the animal’s pancreatic duct and after eight weeks extract this organ.

In 1921, he did what he had planned, and then injected the experimental subject with an extract of the pancreas that had atrophied in another dog. And something incredible happened: the dog that had been injected with the serum recovered. Thus the diabetes drug was invented.

Stephen King and the novel “Misery”

It’s not only scientific discoveries — ideas for works of fiction also come in dreams. For example, Stephen King dreamed the plot of the novel “Misery.” In the dream, he saw a story about how a famous writer is taken captive by a sadistic fan.

According to King’s recollections, he dreamed of a lonely woman with persecution mania. In a barn she kept various animals, including her favorite — a pig named Misery. The insane fan named the animal after the heroine from her idol’s novels. Later, a film of the same name was made based on the novel.

James Cameron and the films “Avatar,” “The Terminator,” “Titanic”

The ideas for James Cameron’s films “Avatar,” “The Terminator,” and “Titanic” also came to him from the world of dreams.

Why discoveries are made in dreams

Why are discoveries made in dreams?

Finding the answer was the focus of their attention. And it was thanks to this concentration of mental power that they began to “see” and receive the needed information. This is the very principle of getting answers to any questions in dreams. It is precisely this that underlies the practice of dreaming.

And that is exactly why lucid dreams are one of the most cherished desires of millions of people. To have personal access to such a source of data! You can get any information if you can create such a focus of attention. The simplest example. When you worry about someone, you begin to see that person in your dreams.

Have you noticed such synchronicity?

What to do if you want to get an answer in a dream

If you want to get an answer to an important question in a dream, use an affirmation for the practice. It is available in the app in the “Dream Practice” section.

Before sleep, focus on the question you want to get an answer to. It is precisely the focus of attention that helps the subconscious find the needed information.

Write down the dream. Immediately after waking up, write down all the details before they are forgotten. Write down your sensations during the dream and after waking up.

Check the symbols in the app. Each symbol has its own meaning. Check all the details of your dream. Do not search on the website, search in the app, where there are more than 7000 dream symbols and interpretations, which are determined based on the analytics of thousands of dreams from the project that came true.

To choose the right time for practices, use the Dream Calendar. And if you want to understand the logic of dreams more deeply, read the book “Prophetic Dreams and Lucid Dreaming”.

Frequently asked questions

What discoveries were made in dreams?
Mendeleev saw the periodic table in a dream. Einstein dreamed of the theory of relativity. Kekule saw the benzene formula as a snake biting its own tail. Elias Howe invented the sewing machine. Niels Bohr saw the model of the atom. Oleg Antonov — the tail unit for an aircraft.

Did Paul McCartney hear Yesterday in a dream?
Yes. McCartney claims that he heard the melody that later became the hit “Yesterday” in a dream. He woke up with the melody in his head and at first could not believe that it was his own music.

Why are discoveries made in dreams?
When consciousness turns off, the subconscious continues to work. It is there, in the depths, that the answers to the most difficult questions are found. Concentration on a task helps you “see” the solution in a dream.

Can you get an answer in a dream yourself?
Yes. To do this, you need to focus on the question before sleep and use an affirmation for the practice. The focus of attention helps the subconscious find the necessary information.

Where can you get the text of the affirmation?
The text of the affirmation for the practice is available in the app in the “Dream Practice” section.

Where can I find interpretations of other symbols?
The complete database with interpretations of all symbols and thousands of dreams that came true are available in the dream interpretation app.

About the project

Our project is a research study about dreams that has been ongoing for many years. During this time, the world’s largest database of dreams that came true has been collected. Thousands of participants share their stories, and based on these stories we compile interpretations of symbols.

Unlike ordinary dream books, which take meanings from encyclopedias, our dream book is created based on the analysis of real dreams that came true. Each symbol has been tested in practice. If the same symbol coincided with the same events for different people, it is included in the database.

The app is a club of dreamers with private access. Everything is collected there: the complete dream book database (more than 7,000 symbols), the world’s largest database of dreams that came true, practices for inducing informational dreams, diaries, decoding algorithms.

We do not fortune-tell and do not predict. We work with data. Symbols, patterns, correlations. Dreams show what is already happening or will happen. And this can be verified. As we do on the project.
